Quite simply, estate planning is the process of planning for the management and/or distribution of your assets and the care of yourself and your loved ones in the event of your disability or death. The process culminates in the execution of various legal documents to direct such management and care.

We are with our clients every step of the way to ensure that the process is as painless as possible. We apply our experience and legal knowledge to help our clients consider the relevant issues and make wise choices, informing them of the potential outcomes of their decisions. After completing the process, we find that our clients are afforded “peace of mind,” knowing that their loved ones will be provided for, that their estates will be distributed in an equitable and tax-efficient manner, and that their survivors will not be overly burdened in wrapping up their affairs.

We know and respect that the issues related to estate planning are very sensitive and often difficult to consider and discuss. However, we believe strongly that with thoughtful advanced planning everyone should be prepared by facing these issues and taking control of these decisions. Otherwise, you leave the fate of your assets and family to a judge who will make decisions based on rigid Missouri law and not your intentions.

Our Process

Prior to our initial complimentary consultation, we ask that our clients complete our estate planning questionnaire to the best of their ability. The questionnaire will prompt clients to begin thinking about the issues involved in the estate planning process, and it will guide our conversation in our initial meeting.

At the end of the initial consultation, or shortly thereafter, we will present the client with a proposed engagement letter which will include a list of the documents we recommend. The letter will also quote a “flat fee” for our services (which includes any and all attorney/client correspondence) to complete the planning. If the client approves of our recommendation, we will begin drafting the documents upon their return of a copy of the signed engagement letter.

The estate plan can normally be completed within two (2) to three (3) weeks, at which time, the client will return to our office and execute their documents in the manner prescribed by Missouri law.
